What does it cost to subscribe or to use the auction?
A one year newsletter subscription is $250. Canadian (plus GST) or $199. Canadian (plus GST) if you choose e-mail delivery. Subscriptions can be paid on-line through PayPal, by credit card, or by mail. Payment options are available at the end of the Registration form.
You can use the auction by simply registering on this website. Registration is free. You can bid on items, and you can sell items, but closing fees will be charged according to our fee schedule.
Yes, the auction is open to the public. Anyone can browse the items for sale. Only registered users with a minimum standard membership can buy, sell, trade, or list a wanted ad. To register you must be 18 years of age or older. Registration is free of charge.

How do I register ?
After clicking on the Register NOW link, just follow these 4 easy steps:
Provide your basic information – Your personal information is secure in our data base and is not shared with other users. Be sure to enter a valid e-mail address. We will send you an e-mail to confirm your address is correct.
Read and agree to our user agreement and privacy policy.
Create your own user name and password. (Please don’t use your e-mail address.) It is by this name that others will identify you on the website.
When you receive the e-mail confirming your e-mail address, you must reply to the link in the e-mail to activate your account. This will confirm and complete your registration. Once your account is activated, you are a registered user and can use your user name and password to log in to the auction.

How did the auction get started ?
Farmers now have an innovative new marketing tool to help find the best price for their grain and hay. An Alberta Company, Direct-AG Services Ltd., based in Southern Alberta has launched a unique new website for buyers and sellers of grain and hay.
Dave Layton, the company’s founder, came up with the idea as a way to help his clients find new buyers and fair prices for their products. When farmers want to sell their grain, they log on to the website and enter it directly or call Dave to list it. The farmer sets the starting bid and a time limit for the auction.
The technology for the website is based on what can best be described as “e-bay for farmers”. We literally took the tried and tested e-bay technology and adapted it to suit the farm marketing situation. Dave Layton, who farms himself, has many years experience working in the grain business. Dave said , “There are times when producers sell for less than they need to, and buyers also pay more than they need to because they are unable to find the right buyer or seller. All we are trying to do is take some of these inefficiencies out of the market place and help it to work better. ”
Directagsales.com has been rigorously tested with real sales and has performed wonderfully. Though the site was initially designed to sell grain and hay, farmers are also using it to sell everything from fence posts to air seeders. The only stipulation is you have to be a farmer to sell things on the site.
One thing Direct-AG Services makes clear to all new users is that the website is just a venue to help farmers find a buyer and establish a price. Sales are not actually completed on the website. Because the identity of the bidders and sellers is anonymous until their auction is finished, there is no obligation to complete the sale unless you are sure it is someone you want to deal with.
Ninety nine percent of the time the sales are completed directly between the parties on their own after the auction process. Most of the grain moving through the auction is feed grains, and there are many brokers and feedlots that have already found the service a very useful and convenient way to source grain.
